Ans. Fold mountain, block mountain and volcanic mountain.

  • How are mountains useful to man?

Ans.

  • They have a rich variety of flora and fauna.

  • How are plains formed?

Ans. Plains are formed by rivers and their tributaries. River water contains eroded material, when river deposit these eroded material along their courses and in their valleys from these deposits plains are formed.

  • Why are the river plains thickly populated?

Ans. The river palains are suitable for human habitaiton. People get flat land for building houses and for cultivation. The soil of river plains are very fertile. Hence people prefer to live here.

  • Why are mountains thinly populated?

Ans.  Life is very difficult in mountain areas because of harsh climate. It is quite difficult to grow crops, build houses or roads in a mountain. Hence people do not prefer to live here.
